It is a real privilege to be Headteacher of our school and to work alongside our children, families, staff and wider community.

At John Emmerson Batty, we want every child to feel happy, safe and valued, while receiving the very best education we can provide.  We believe that children thrive when they know that the adults around them care about them, believe in them and have high expectations of what they can achieve.

Our school values are captured in our simple but important message: Achieve, Believe, Challenge – JEB’s ABCs.  We want our children to achieve their best, believe in themselves and others, and have the confidence to embrace challenge.  These principles shape not only what happens in the classroom, but the wider experiences, opportunities and relationships that make school special.

We are ambitious for all of our children.  Alongside securing strong foundations in reading, writing and mathematics, we want children to experience a broad and engaging curriculum that develops their knowledge, curiosity and understanding of the world.  Just as importantly, we want them to grow into kind, respectful, resilient and confident young people who are well prepared for the next stage of their lives.

We recognise that every child is different and that children do not all learn or develop in the same way.  Being inclusive means knowing our children well, identifying and removing barriers where they exist, and providing the right support and challenge so that every child has the opportunity to succeed.

Strong relationships with parents and carers are an important part of this.  Education works best when school and home work together, and we want families to feel welcome, listened to and part of our school community.  We also value our place within the local community and the opportunities that come from working alongside colleagues across Galileo Multi-Academy Trust.

Most of all, John Emmerson Batty is abouts its children.  Their learning, wellbeing and future are at the centre of the decisions we make, and we want them to look back on their time here with happy memories and genuine sense of pride in what they have achieved.
